Abstract

In March 2005 I made a seven-day trip to the Alaskan Arctic in search of a frozen river. In a few days I was able to locate a river under the Arctic Circle where I began the realization of this project. One of the objectives was to make a square cut into this river and pull out a portion in its frozen state. I will then ship this frozen geological specimen to Nassau, Bahamas. This work will be displayed in the extremely hot summer month of July. The large specimen of ice will then sit in a triple pane glass freezer, which will derive its power from a solar energy system. In effect. the power of the sun will be keeping this removed remnant of the Arctic intact and stable, while on view in the Caribbean. The specimen will be on display in a temporary gallery site, open for public viewing.
