TRAJECTORY: The trajectory of my work, spanning four decades, describes a process of transformation of vision across temporal terrains, migration of content through a spectrum of modes, and the convergence of concept and intention in evolving technologies. Modes and terrains I've traversed include fiction writing, 35mm and view camera b/w photography, 16mm sound animation, analogue and digital video, digital photo and graphics, digital 3D modeling and animation, synthetic worlds, and drumming as ritual practice.

    2008 Rockefeller New Media Foundation Proposal

    "Bronzeville" was the local name for the South Side of Chicago, approximately 1919-1959. It's streets and residents were part of the great events of the period: The Great Migration of African-Americans North after WWI; segregation and Jim Crow; The Great Depression; WWII and the Second Migration, and The Chicago Renaissance in African-American Arts and Letters (1932-1950). Three generations of my family witnessed and participated in this vibrant and creative place and time. This period and place are the backdrop, and context, for this work of media art. BRONZEVILLE SL will be an immersive installation art experience in the Second Life synthetic world. BRONZEVILLE SL is conceived as a trans-generational memoir; a hymn of nuanced harmonies and discords; a blending of voices sweet and rough. It is a transformation of my vision, extending and expanding the concept and design developed in IN THE SWEET BYE & BYE in Second Life (see samples).
